Flood safety during heavy rain
Flooding can happen quickly. Know where to get alerts, avoid flooded roads, and protect people, pets, and property before severe weather arrives.
During a flood
Do not walk, drive, or bike through floodwater. Move to higher ground when directed and keep away from downed power lines and fast-moving water.
After water recedes
Document damage, avoid contaminated water, and use caution around electrical equipment. Contact insurance, housing, or emergency assistance programs as appropriate.
